Keratin repairs and smooths your hair — frizz gone, natural movement kept — and lasts 3–5 months. Rebonding rebuilds the hair’s bonds so it stays permanently straight until new hair grows in. Neither one is “better”. The right choice depends on whether you want smooth hair or straight hair, and on what condition your hair is in now. We check your hair first and tell you honestly.

Almost every week, a girl sits in our chair and asks the same question, usually with her phone in her hand: “Keratin karwa loon ya rebonding?” She has a screenshot saved — usually pin-straight, glassy hair — and she wants that exact result. Here is the honest answer we give her before we touch a single strand: the two treatments do very different jobs, and the photo she is showing us often had keratin, not rebonding — or the other way round. Pick the wrong one and you end up with flat, lifeless hair when you wanted soft movement, or waves still showing when you paid for straight. This guide explains the difference in plain words, so you book the treatment your hair actually needs.
Keratin puts protein back into hair that heat, colouring, dust and daily washing have worn down. The treatment fills the damaged parts of each strand and seals the cuticle with controlled heat, so the hair lies smooth, reflects light and stops frizzing up in humidity.
Your hair keeps its natural movement — smoother, softer and much easier to comb and style, not pin-straight. That is the point girls miss: keratin is a repair and smoothing treatment first, and a straightening treatment second.
At our salon, keratin lasts 3 to 5 months with proper aftercare and a sulfate-free shampoo. It works well on coloured hair too, and can make the colour look richer. Every treatment starts with a free hair check and a strand test.
Rebonding changes the structure of the hair itself. It breaks the bonds that make your hair curl or wave, reshapes the hair straight, and then sets the new bonds — so the treated hair stays straight permanently.
Permanent means the hair we treat never curls again. But your roots keep growing in with their natural texture, so after a few months you will see a line where the new growth starts — which is why rebonding needs root touch-ups rather than a full redo.
Because it is a stronger chemical process, the strand test matters even more here. Hair that is already badly damaged, heavily bleached or over-processed may not be safe to rebond — and we will tell you that before we start, not after.
| Keratin | Rebonding | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Repairs with protein and smooths | Rebuilds hair bonds to straighten |
| The result | Smooth, shiny, natural movement kept | Permanently straight, sleek |
| How long it lasts | 3–5 months | Permanent on treated hair; roots grow in natural |
| Best for | Frizz, dryness, damage, coloured hair | Curly or wavy hair that wants straight |
| Aftercare | Sulfate-free shampoo; no tight ponytails or clips for 2–3 days | Gentle care; root touch-ups as hair grows |
Start from what you want in the mirror. If you want your own hair, only smoother, softer and frizz-free — with its waves or body still there — that is keratin. If you want your hair straight every single day, without a straightener, and you are happy to keep up with root touch-ups — that is rebonding.
Then look at your hair’s condition. Dry, rough, colour-damaged or frizzy hair usually needs keratin first, because keratin repairs — rebonding only straightens what is there, and on already weak hair it can make breakage worse. That is the mistake we see most, and the strand test is how we catch it. If you are still unsure, come in for the free hair check and tell us how you style your hair at home and what you want it to look like on an ordinary day, not just in a photo. We will recommend one honestly — and if your hair is not ready for either yet, we will say that too.
Extenso sits between the two. It relaxes the hair into a natural-looking straight — softer and less stiff than full rebonding, and easier to manage than untreated wavy hair. Girls who find rebonding too flat and keratin not straight enough often end up happiest with extenso.
A protein treatment is different again: it is not about straight at all. It strengthens weak, breaking hair by filling in the damaged areas of the hair shaft. If your hair is snapping, thinning at the ends or breaking when you comb it, protein is usually the right first step — straightening can wait until the hair is strong again.
1. The strand test tells the truth, and we never skip it. Hair that has had henna again and again, or bleach on top of colour, can react very differently from healthy hair. A small test strand shows us exactly how your hair will take the treatment — and it has saved more than one girl from rebonding hair that would have broken. A salon that skips the test is guessing with your hair.
2. The first two or three days after keratin decide the result. No tight ponytails, no clips, nothing that presses a crease into the hair while the treatment is still setting. Girls who tie their hair up on day one come back with a dent they can see in every photo — and it was avoidable. Keep it loose, let it fall, and the smoothness sets properly.
Kasur’s weather is part of the decision. Summer humidity and dust frizz hair up within hours of styling, which is why keratin is so popular here in the hot months — it is the treatment that fights the weather, not just the mirror. Winter brings dry, cold air and foggy evenings, and hair that is already dry gets rougher; a keratin or protein treatment before the wedding season leaves it manageable for the long event days.
Brides book these treatments before their events for the same reason — a week of Mehndi, Nikah, Barat and Walima is much easier when your hair behaves. Three to five months with proper aftercare and a sulfate-free shampoo. How you wash and look after your hair matters as much as the treatment itself.
Yes, on the hair we treat — it stays straight until it is cut off. But your new growth comes in with its natural texture, so you will need root touch-ups as your hair grows.
No. Keratin makes hair smoother, softer and frizz-free, but it keeps your natural movement and body. If you want pin-straight hair every day, rebonding is the treatment for that.
Yes. Keratin works well on coloured hair and can make the colour look richer. We still do a strand test first, because coloured hair and rebonding are a different question.
It depends on your hair length, thickness and which treatment you choose, so we do not give one fixed price. Send us a photo of your hair on WhatsApp and we will give you an exact quote before you book.
Yes, please book on WhatsApp. Both treatments take a few hours in the chair, so we schedule them as timed appointments. We are open daily from 9am to 10pm at Steel Bagh Chowk, Kasur.
