Rica wax vs honey wax — cream wax being applied during waxing in Kasur at Glow Beauty Salon

Quick answer

For most of our clients, Rica wax is the kinder choice — especially for sensitive skin, the face and fine hair — because it grips the hair, not the skin, so there is much less redness afterwards. Honey wax is the classic option and still works well on normal skin and coarse hair. Full side-by-side comparison below.

Almost every week, a girl sits in our waxing chair and asks the same question, usually a little worried: “Last time my skin stayed red for two days — will it happen again?” Sometimes she has an event in three days; sometimes she just dreads the burning feeling. And when we ask, “Rica or honey?”, she honestly does not know the difference — she just picks whatever she picked last time. So here is the comparison we give at our salon in Kasur — the same one we give our own sisters.

What is the difference between Rica wax and honey wax?

Rica is an oil-based Italian wax made for gentle hair removal; honey wax is the traditional wax most of us grew up with. Both remove hair from the root with a strip — the real difference is what the wax holds on to while it works.

Rica wax is liposoluble, which means it is built on vegetable oils. It wraps around the hair and lets go of the skin more easily, it is applied warm rather than very hot, and it needs no pre-wax oil — the oils are already inside it. Honey wax is stickier by nature — it grips the hair and the skin together, which is why its pull feels stronger and it can lift a little surface skin along with the hair. Neither wax is bad — they are built for different skin, and most waxing problems start when the wrong one is used on the wrong skin.

Which wax is better for sensitive skin?

Rica — and honestly, it is not a close contest. If your skin goes red quickly, stings for hours after waxing, or you are waxing your face or underarms, Rica is the wax we reach for first at our salon.

Honey wax’s strong grip on the skin is exactly what sensitive skin cannot take: the pull can leave redness, tiny bumps or a burning feeling that sits for a day or two. Rica’s oils sit like a cushion between wax and skin, so the strip takes the hair and leaves the skin calmer. One honest warning: no wax is magic. If your skin is broken, sunburnt, or freshly treated, the right answer is to wait a few days — and we will tell you that in the chair, even if it means sending you home.

Does Rica wax hurt less than honey wax?

For most girls, yes — a little less pain, and a much better after-feeling. The wax itself makes a real difference, though the area and your hair matter too.

The sting of waxing comes from two pulls: the pull on the hair root, and the pull on your skin. Honey wax does both at full strength. Rica reduces the second one, so each strip feels cleaner, and your skin does not keep complaining for hours afterwards. You feel the difference most on the underarms and face; on the arms, almost everyone manages both easily. One truth from our chair: the first wax after a long gap — or after shaving — always feels stronger, whichever wax you choose, because roots grow thick.

Which wax should you choose for arms, legs and face?

Arms and legs suit both waxes; the face and delicate areas belong to Rica. This is how we guide our own clients:

  • Arms: both work. Normal skin with coarse hair does fine with honey wax; fine hair, or skin that reddens, is happier with Rica.
  • Legs: both work — but dry winter legs usually prefer Rica.
  • Face: Rica, almost always. Facial skin is thinner and reacts faster than body skin.
  • Underarms: Rica for most girls, because the skin there is soft and quick to react.

At our salon, arm waxing is Rs 600 and arms with feet are Rs 1,000. Tell us your skin type when you book, and we will keep the right wax ready for you.

From our salon floor: two things only experience teaches

1. The first strip tells us everything. We always begin with one small strip. If the skin flares up instantly, we stop and change the wax or the plan. A good waxing appointment is decided in the first thirty seconds — not at the payment counter.

2. Event girls: wax two days before, never the day before. Before a mehndi or a walima, girls rush in the same morning. With honey wax especially, redness can sit into the next day and show under makeup. Rica settles faster — but even with Rica, we book our brides two days ahead, so the skin that meets the camera is calm skin.

Mistakes we see all the time

  • Choosing by habit, not by skin. “I always take honey” is not a reason — your skin this winter may not behave like your skin last summer.
  • Waxing on the day of the event. Redness, heat and makeup on top is a bad combination.
  • Scrubbing or bleaching right after waxing. Your skin has just been pulled; give it at least a day before any strong product.
  • Applying cream or oil just before the appointment. Wax slips on oily skin and needs repeat strips — more pulls, more pain.
  • Trying a new wax type one day before your wedding. New things are tested in a normal week, never in wedding week — the same rule as facials.

Waxing in Kasur: dust, heat and wedding season

Kasur’s summers are hot and dusty, and dust settles on fresh skin — so in summer, wax at least a day before a long day out, and keep the skin clean and covered afterwards. Winters are the opposite: dry skin that was fine with honey wax in June can complain in December, so many of our regulars quietly shift to Rica for the winter months. And from November to February, wedding season fills our chairs — if you need arms, face and full prep before an event, book your slot on WhatsApp instead of walking in. You will find us at Steel Bagh Chowk, near Masjid Zohra, and ladies coming from Pattoki, Chunian or Kot Radha Kishan can book our home salon service in advance.

Not sure which wax your skin wants?

Message us on WhatsApp, tell us your skin type and the area, and we will suggest the right wax before you even sit in the chair. See everything included on our Waxing page, pair it with a cleanup from the Facial page, and see how our brides plan their prep in the Bridal Makeup Timeline — or just visit us at Steel Bagh Chowk, Kasur, open daily 9am–10pm.

FAQs

Waxing in Kasur: frequently asked questions

Which wax is best for sensitive skin — Rica or honey?

Rica. Its oils grip the hair more than the skin, so sensitive and easily-red skin stays calmer, especially on the face and underarms. If your skin is broken or sunburnt, wait a few days before any wax.

Does Rica wax really hurt less?

For most girls, yes. The pull on the skin is smaller, so the sting is less and the skin settles faster afterwards. Thick hair after a long gap will still feel strong the first time, whichever wax you choose.

How much does arm waxing cost at your salon?

Arm waxing is Rs 600, and arms with feet are Rs 1,000 at Glow Beauty Salon Kasur. When you book, tell us your skin type and we will guide you to the right wax for your skin.

How many days before an event should I wax?

Two days before is the sweet spot. Your skin gets a full day to calm down, and you are still perfectly smooth on the day — this is what we suggest to all our brides and event clients.

Can I get my face waxed with Rica wax?

Yes — Rica is the wax we prefer for the face, because facial skin is thinner and reacts faster. For very fine facial hair, some girls prefer threading; we will look at your skin and suggest honestly.

How long does waxing last before hair grows back?

Usually three to four weeks of smoothness, because waxing removes hair from the root. Regrowth after Rica often feels softer and finer — but it is a little different for every girl.

Smooth skin, zero guesswork.

Tell us your skin type on WhatsApp and we will keep the right wax ready for you — arms Rs 600, arms & feet Rs 1,000. Glow Beauty Salon, Steel Bagh Chowk, Kasur. Open daily 9am–10pm.
